Matt Wiley, representing Northern New York IAABO Board #59, has been chosen by Section 3 to work the New York State Public High School Athletic Associations boys basketball tournament in Glens Falls this weekend.
A graduate and former basketball player from Thousand Islands Central School, Wiley is also a member of the College Board of Officials and works Division III ECAC games as well.
It has been six years since an official from the Watertown board has been chosen for this assignment. Matt will work two games while in Glens Falls. He most recently worked the Section 3 Class D finals at the Carrier Dome.
The four Section 10 boys basketball teams which will take part in the state playoffs next week were in action Thursday night at SUNY Potsdam playing in semifinals of the overall tournament.
Massena and Ogdensburg Free Academy will meet for that championship Friday while Madrid-Waddington and St. Lawrence Central will begin practicing for their upcoming state playoff contests.
Class A champion Massena opens on Tuesday at a Section 2 site to be named.
Class B champion OFA has a first-round bye and will host either the Section 2 or 7 champion March 9 at SUNY Potsdam in a quarterfinal.
Class C champion St. Lawrence Central opens at a Section 2 site to be named and Class D champion Madrid-Waddington hosts the Section 7 champion on Tuesday at SUNY Potsdam.
Massena Outlook
The Red Raiders got into the state playoffs in dramatic fashion as Zach Rusaw scored with 1.7 seconds left to give the Red Raiders (12-8) a 48-47 win over Malone in the Section 10 championship game. The Red Raiders had lost twice to Malone by double figures during the regular season.
Rusaw leads Massena, averaging 14.8 points and Joey LaBelle averages 12.2.

The Red Raiders will open the state playoffs at Section 2. Top-seeded Scotia will meet No. 3 Glens Falls for that championship on Saturday.
OFA Outlook
The Blue Devils (20-1) have been a dominant team this season, losing only once, 57-48 to Malone on Dec. 7. Since that game OFA has won 17 straight games and the Blue Devils average victory margin has been 34.7 points.
OFA reached the state tournament with a 46-36 win over three-time champion Potsdam.

OFA has a first-round bye and will host either the Section 2 or 7 champion in a state quarterfinal on March. 9.
Section 2's championship is Saturday and features No. 1 Watervliet against No. 2 Schuylerville. Section 7's championship game is also Saturday and features Beekmantown against Peru.
St. Lawrence Central Outlook
The championship experience was new for the Larries (10-11) last year, but St. Lawrence Central earned a second straight trip to the state tournament with a 48-37 win over Canton in the Section 10 title game. The Larries had gone just 2-4 in their previous six games before the postseason began.
Zane Ramsdell leads the team at 16.2 points and Josh White averages 10.8.

St. Lawrence Central will open the state playoffs at Section 2. That championship will be decided Saturday when top-seeded Hoosic Valley meets No. 2 Lake George.
Madrid-Waddington Outlook
The Yellow Jackets (16-7) made it to the state championship game last year and earned another trip to the state playoffs by knocking out the top three seeds in Section 10. Madrid-Waddington was a No. 6 seed and won the title with a 57-41 win over St. Regis Falls.

The Yellow Jackets will host the Section 7 champion in the first round of the state playoffs on Tuesday.
Section 7's semifinals are Friday with No. 3 Elizabethtown-Lewis playing No. 2 Moriah and No. 5 Chazy facing No. 1 Schroon Lake. The championship game will be Saturday.
Four Section 10 girls basketball teams will be taking part in the NYSPHSAA playoffs next week.
Two teams, Class A Massena and Class B Salmon River will have first-round byes and then will host quarterfinal games on March 9 at SUNY Potsdam.
Class C champion Canton will open the state tournament at the Section 2 champion for a first-round game next Tuesday and Class D champion Hammond will host the Section 7 champions in a first-round game on Tuesday at SUNY Potsdam.

The Red Raiders (12-8) earned their trip to the state tournament with a 41-36 win over Malone, which is the only other Class A team in Section 10. Massena's offense has been led by Alisha Jacobs (15.3 points) and Marissa Manley (13.1).
The Red Raiders will be playing either a Section 2 or 3 team in the state quarterfinals.
Section 2's championship game is Saturday and features top-seeded Troy against No. 2 Holy Names. Section 3's championship game is Wednesday night and features top-seeded Jamesville-DeWitt against No. 2 Whitesboro.

Salmon River Outlook
The Shamrocks (16-5) earned their third straight Section 10 championship with a 52-47 win over Ogdensburg Free Academy, avenging two losses to the Blue Devils during the regular season.
The bulk of Salmon River's scoring has come from junior Abby Kelly, who averages 22.9 points and has scored 42 percent of her team's points this season.

Salmon River will host either Section 7 or Section 2 in the quarterfinals. Plattsburgh meets Beekmantown for the Section 7 title on Friday. Section 2 has its semifinals Wednesday and its championship game on Saturday. The team's left in that tournament include Watervliet, Ichabod Crane, Ravena and Tamarac.

Canton Outlook
The Golden Bears (18-2) have been one of Section 10's top teams this season. Canton reached the state playoffs with a 45-32 win over St. Lawrence Central.
The team's offense is led by senior Emma Rexford, who averages 16.9 points and has scored 30.7 percent of hits team's points. Tori Daley averages 8.4 points and Kali Frank averages 7.1
Canton will open on the road against Section 2's champion. Top-seeded Hoosic Valley meets No. 3 Berne-Knox for the championship on Saturday.

Hammond Outlook
The Red Devils (20-2) are making a repeat trip to the state tournament after edging Heuvelton 43-40 in the championship game.
Hammond's only losses this season have been to Class B schools OFA and Salmon River.
The Red Devils have played tough defense this year, allowing only 30.1 points a game. Hammond has held teams under 30 points 11 times in 22 games.
The team's leading scorer is senior Alyssa Crosby, who averages 19.2 points and has accounted for 35.5 percent of her team's offense. She was named the winner of Section 10's Jan Reetz Award Tuesday, which goes to the top overall player in the section.

Massena (14-6-1) won its second straight Section 10 Division I championship in dramatic fashion Sunday afternoon at Cheel Arena.
The Red Raiders, who had beaten Potsdam twice during the regular season, were trailing the Sandstoners 2-1 when Grayson Phillips-Cole scored a goal with just 23.5 seconds remaining to tie the score.

Potsdam tied the game 43 seconds into the second period on a breakaway goal from Robbie Scott off a pass from Trevor Keleher. Scott scored what Potsdam thought might be the game-winning goal on a power-play at 8:20 of the third period.

Potsdam Takes the Ice
A tight game was made more comfortable for St. Lawrence Central (16-4-1) when leading scorer Luke Arquiett scored two goals in the final 48.1 seconds of the second period, snapping a 1-1 tie and leading the Larries to a 6-1 win in the Division II final at Cheel Arena.
Arquiett scored his first goal with 48.1 seconds left and then scored again with 0.1 on the clock.
The third period featuring another Larries outburst as SLC scored three goals in 3:37 to turn the game into a rout.
