SANBORN — Ashley Capone provided nine kills and three service points, but the fifth-seeded Jefferson Community College volleyball team lost to No. 2 Jamestown CC in straight sets, 25-23, 25-14, 25-17, in the semifinals of the Region 3 Division III playoffs on Sunday afternoon at Niagara County Community College.

Lahni Duffer delivered 24 assists and Francesca Barajas provided 19 digs for the Cannoneers, who finished the season at 26-11.

Jamestown CC (29-10) went on to defeat Monroe CC in the championship match.

MEN’S SOCCER

SUNY CANTON 1, DAEMEN 0

Sophomore Shane Powell scored on a penalty kick in the 54th minute to lift SUNY Canton to a victory over Daemen College in Canton.

The goal was Powell’s third game-winner this season for the Roos (8-8-1), who will wrap up their regular season today at SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse.

William Banahene made six saves to earn the shutout for SUNY Canton.

Matt Dadarrio stopped three shots for the Wildcats (4-9).

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

HOLY CROSS 6, SUNY POTSDAM 2

The Crusaders jumped out to a 6-0 lead and cruised to the nonconference victory over the Bears in Worcester, Mass.

Freshman Rachel Grefke and sophomore Izzy Fayerman each scored for SUNY Potsdam (0-2). The Bears don’t play again until Nov. 6, when they open their Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference West Division schedule at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Rebecca O’Quinn and Nicole Giannino each scored a pair of goals for Holy Cross (1-0).

NORTHEASTERN CLUB 6, SUNY CANTON 0

Freshman Alyssa Altschuler made 49 saves, but the Roos again fell victim to the Huskies at Canton.

Altschuler finished the two-game weekend series with 101 saves overall for SUNY Canton (0-6).

Nicole Fox scored twice to lead Northeastern (2-1).
