Indian River claim top spot in win

PHILADELPHIA — Erick Torres and Junior Malinoski each scored a pair of goals as Indian River downed Carthage, 6-2 for an “A” Division victory in Frontier League boys soccer.

Ben Godin and Tyler Cook supplied the other two goals for the Warriors (8-2 overall, 7-1 league), who moved into possession of first place in the division.

Goalkeeper Jacob LaClair made eight saves for Indian River.

Tyler Biolsi and Chris DeRonda each scored a goal for the Comets (6-3, 5-3).

SOUTH JEFFERSON 0, WATERTOWN 0

The Spartans and Cyclones battled to a scoreless tie in a crossover game in Watertown.

Goalie William Beese made six saves for South Jefferson (3-5-1), and Noah Taylor was credited with one save for Watertown (7-1-1, 6-0-1).

IHC 6, GENERAL BROWN 1

JP McClusky tallied two goals and assisted on another as the Cavaliers gained a crossover victory in Dexter.

Jude Fusilli scored twice, while Chris Rowland recorded two assists, and Matt Guyette registered a goal and an assist. Jarrod Smith made three saves for Immaculate Heart Central (6-3, 5-3).

Kevin Durdon scored for General Brown (3-7).

LOWVILLE 2, ALEXANDRIA 0

Jordan Zehr assisted on Dylan Roes’s game-winning goal and added a goal as the Red Raiders won a crossover meeting of divisional leaders in Lowville.

Roes scored the deciding goal in the first minute of the second half, and Zehr followed with his goal in the 48th minute.

Goalie Collin Farquhar was required to make only two saves to register the shutout for Lowville (8-1-1).

Christopher Strough finished with four saves for the Purple Ghosts (6-1-1).

COPENHAGEN 6, SOUTH LEWIS 0

Antonio Figueroa generated two goals and an assist as the Golden Knights blanked the Falcons in crossover play in Turin.

Copenhagen (6-0-1) scored five goals in the second half.

South Lewis fell to 2-9.

THOUSAND ISLANDS 2, LAFARGEVILLE 1

Scott McKain scored from just outside of the penalty area in the 57th minute as the Vikings edged the Red Knights for the crossover victory in Clayton.

McKain scored both goals for Thousand Islands (5-3). Sam Ada made four saves.

Ethan Johnson tallied for LaFargeville (2-5-1).

BEAVER RIVER 5, BELLEVILLE HENDERSON 0

Cody Updike and Tarren Farney each scored a pair of goals to lead the Beavers past the Panthers in a crossover game in Beaver Falls.

Hunter Nortz added a goal and an assist for Beaver River (2-5-2).

Belleville Henderson dropped to 0-9.

LYME 3, SACKETS HARBOR 0

Sam Liakhovitch scored two goals in the second half as the Indians blanked the Patriots in a “D” Division game in Chaumont.

Goalkeeper Christian Sanford made six saves to record the shutout for Lyme (5-4).

Caden Sanford also scored for the Indians.

Jacob Flagg (eight saves) and Ryan Allen each played in goal for Sackets Harbor (2-5-2).

GIRLS TENNIS

PETERS SETS SCHOOL RECORD

Junior Andrea Peters won at first singles to set the school record for wins to spark Beaver River to a 3-2 victory over Lowville in the Frontier League.

Peters defeated Ashley Stocking, 6-0, 6-3 for the “B” Division-leading Beavers (8-2).

Peters, who has played at the varsity level since the seventh grade, now has 67 career wins, passing Taylor Dziekan on the program’s all-time list.
