Xavier Ewing recorded the second knockout of his amateur career to seal his victory for the Watertown Area Boxing Club during Saturday night’s fourth annual Carmen Basilio Quest for Champions event at the Watertown Fairgrounds.

Ewing knocked out Jean Francois-Cousineau of Gladiators Boxing Club of Gatineau, Quebec, in the first round in the 185-pound novice division.

The victory was one of two for the WABC. Tyler Gamage won his first amateur bout, capturing a three-round decision against Daniel St. Aubin of Gladiators in the 160-pound sub novice division.

Tariq McDonald of the Black River Boxing Academy lost for the first time in his amateur career, falling by decision to Ben Wright of the Schenectady Youth Boxing Club at 160 novice division. McDonald had won his previous two fights.

Michelle Cook, of the Standing Rock Boxing Club in Massena, was selected the fighter of the night after her victory against Amber Blumfield in the 135 female novice division. Cook, with just five fights in her career, defeated Blumfield, of Vermont, who had 27 bouts.

Erica Adjel, of the Beaver Boxing Club in Ottawa, won by decision in the 132 female open division against Robbi Cook of Standing Rock.
