MORRISTOWN A man from Williamsport, Pa., who was waterskiing on the St. Lawrence River died at about 1 p.m. Monday after striking the boats propeller with his left leg while he was entering the boat, causing severe lacerations.
Christopher J. Tobiasz, 57, was assisted into the boat by family members after the incident, which occurred about a quarter-mile west of the village of Morristown. Family members attempted to treat his injuries while the boat traveled to the shore of Chippewa Bay. They were assisted by an off-duty officer from the state Department of Environmental Conservation who was flagged to help.
State police and the Hammond Rescue Squad were on site when the boat arrived on shore, but Mr. Tobiasz died while being taken to River Hospital in Alexandria Bay, police reported.
State police said Monday night that an autopsy likely will be scheduled.
