Federal scientists announced Wednesday that July was the hottest month in U.S. history.
The months scorching temperatures across the country trumped the former record that was set during the Dust Bowl era in 1936, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The study found that the average U.S. temperature during July was 77.6 degrees Fahrenheit 3.3 degrees above the 20th century average.
The previous record set in 1936 chalked up an average temperature of 77.4 degrees.
