MASSENA - Sen. Charles E. Schumer will be visiting Alcoas Massena West Plant at 11 a.m. Wednesday, his office confirmed Tuesday afternoon.
Mr. Schumer will meet with company officials and discuss the proposed modernization of the Massena facility. He will also address Alcoas concerns about the proposed future phases of the Environmental Protection Agencys Grasse River cleanup. Alcoa needs more information on the cleanups costs and details and how it will be involved before moving forward with the modernization project, Mr. Schumers Press Secretary Meredith C. Kelly said.
Mr. Schumer will be relaying those concerns to the Environmental Protection Agency, Ms. Kelly said.
They cant move forward with future expansion plans until they know whats going on with the EPA, Ms. Kelly said. They need some certainty that they dont have right now.
