CANTON — Gertrude E. Williams, 94, of Maplewood Campus died Saturday August 4 at home. Prior to being one of the first residents of the assisted living apartments, she had resided at Pleasant Street in Canton. Funeral services will be held at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton, on Tuesday August 7 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Michael Catanzaro officiating. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 11:00 AM until the start of the funeral service. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Canton.

Mrs. Williams was born May 2, 1918 in Crary Mills, NY, a daughter of Leroy H. and Maude (Kennedy) Moore. She graduated from Canton High School. She married Lloyd Robinson in 1942. He was killed in France during WW II. In 1947 she married Raymond H. Williams who passed away in 1989. She had worked at the Hotel Harrington, Gray’s Lanes, St. Lawrence Inn and as a mortgage analyst for Canton Savings and Loan, retiring in 1981.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheila (Robinson) and Nat Virkler of Lowville, and Cheryl and Dan Perry of Shallotte, North Carolina; a son, Kevin and Vicky Williams of Norwood; a brother Harold E. and Beverly Moore of Boaz AL; two sisters Helen Kenyon of Canton and Margaret and Leo Gardiner of Painted Post, NY; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, sisters in law Tillie William of Gouverneur and Shirley Robinson of Waddington; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters Clara Conant and Ruth Rowe.

Gertrude was a past member of the American Legion and a charter member of the Ladies Auxillary VFW Post 1231, Canton. She was an avid needle worker enjoying knitting, crocheting, and needlepoint and was also known as a great reader.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to a charity of their choice.
