LOWVILLE — A Carthage woman on Thursday was accused of improperly receiving $2,791 in public assistance benefits through Lewis County while living in Jefferson County.

Lewis County sheriff’s deputies, through a joint investigation with the Lewis County Department of Social Services investigative unit, charged Amy L. Stone, 28, with felony counts of welfare fraud, grand larceny and offering a false instrument for filing.

She was arraigned in Village Court and released on her own recognizance pending possible grand jury action.
