City Library Begins Summer Program

It’s time for children to Dream Big at Ogdensburg Public Library. OPL’s Summer Reading Program kicked off Monday at 10 a.m. for children in grades K-3, and 11 a.m. for grades 4 to 6. Each morning through Friday, children will be asked to dream about outer space.

With story times and activities exploring space travel, planets, stars, and other things celestial, kids will have fun while reading.

There will be special programs, too. On Wednesday, a StarLab Planetarium will be set up at the Library to bring the universe to our doorstep. StarLab Planetarium is a compact, portable done-shaped structure that blows up to comfortably accommodates 25 stargazing enthusiasts (young children should be accompanied by adults). Simulating the night sky, StarLab shows you the Moon, stars, planets, and the wispy presence of the Milky Way Galaxy.

It also brings the age-old mythological constellations back to life for great family educational entertainment. Then on Thursday, pop artist Michael Albert, also known as Sir Real, will be at the library for a program for children at 10 a.m., and a Teen Program at 11 a.m. Participants will create a work of art in a style developed by Sir Real the uniquely presents common images in new, interesting and beautiful ways.

Coordinated by volunteer Donna Barr, this year’s Summer Reading Program will run for a second week in August with an Under the Sea theme. Parents are asked to register their children at the library, by phoning 393-4325, online at ogdlib.org, or at the library prior to the 10 a.m. start of the program.

While it is hoped that children will be able to attend all sessions, this free program is meant to be fun for them and their families with no strings attached.

The only expectations are that young children will be accompanied by an adult and that all are prepared to Dream Big!
