RUTLAND CENTER State police are asking for help in their investigation of a suspicious barn fire early Saturday at 26836 Ridge Road in the town of Rutland.
State police Investigator Randy S. Pound said anyone with information about the fire should call him at the Watertown Bureau of Criminal Investigation, 782-3691. Jefferson County fire investigators continue to probe its cause, he said.
Were hoping to get leads, he said, declining to comment further on the investigation. There are facts that were not putting out there in the public.
Firefighters were back at the scene Monday afternoon after the hay reignited, said Joseph D. Plummer, Jefferson County director of fire and emergency management.
Theyre back out there, he said. They were there all night. You cant put out hay.
The fire broke out shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday and the structure, which was full of hay, was a total loss. The road near the former Zahn family farm was closed to traffic for several hours.
Joseph P. Spezzano Jr. of Branford, Conn., owns the property.
Felts Mills firefighters were assisted by several agencies Sunday, including Black River Fire and Ambulance Service, Fort Drum, town of Watertown, Great Bend, Northpole and Rutland fire departments and the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department.
