OGDENSBURG — Mark L. Palmer, 49, of 962 Scotch Bush Road, was charged with assault Saturday after being released from the hospital, where he had been recovering after allegedly shooting himself in the leg.

The charges stem from a physical domestic dispute June 2 between Mr. Palmer and his son, Scott L. Palmer, 19, state police said.

Troopers said Scott fired a shotgun near his father’s feet, then dropped the gun. The father later picked up the gun and smashed it against the ground, causing it to discharge and shoot him in the leg.

He is scheduled to appear in Ogdensburg City Court.
