SACKETS HARBOR — After a several months’ search, the Great Lakes Seaway Trail selected Michael Bristol as its new president and CEO.

Mr. Bristol, who according to the group has worked for 30 years in the tourism field, previously was director of marketing and outreach for the Antique Boat Museum, Clayton. He also is a member of the Clayton Local Development Corp. redevelopment committee that is overseeing a dock and hotel development.

Seaway Trail Chairman John Hall, in a statement, praised Mr. Bristol for his knowledge of fundraising and the tourism industry.

Before coming to New York, he was the associate director of Florida State University’s Seminole Boosters Inc. and president and CEO of the Tallahassee Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

In a statement, Mr. Bristol said the trail put New York and Pennsylvania on an “internationally recognized stage.”

Mr. Bristol entered the new role Monday. He succeeds Teresa H. Mitchell, who had been in the job from 1986 until her death in January.
