GLENFIELD – Ralph J. Steria, 57, passed away at his home on Monday, June 18th, 2012 at his home on the Pine Grove Road while under the care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.

Born on August 17, 1954, in Lowville, a son of Harold and Doris Roggie Steria, Ralph graduated from Lowville Academy. After graduation, he went to work at Fiber Mark for over 40 years where he received his electrical certification. On October 16, 1993, he married Laurie Mowers at the home of his parents with Rose Spann, officiating.

Mr. Steria achieved the rank of Fourth Degree Black Belt and in 2007 was promoted to Chief Instructor. Among his other achievements, he was a coach for the Junior Demonstration team for several years; assisted with the Law Enforcement Defensive Tactics School and was instrumental in the growth of the youth and adult karate programs in the Northeast and Ontario, Canada all under the American Kang Duk Won Karate Club.

He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing and an excellent marksman and spending time with his family.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Laurie; his son, Adam of Glenfield; his daughter Nichole and Bob Workman of Carthage; his mother, Doris of Lowville; two brothers, Richard Steria and companion, Barbara Page of Hinsdale, NH; Ronald and Patricia Steria of Lowville; two sisters, Ruth (Sue) Wilkerson of Walden, NY; Rose and Edward Carpenter of Dexter; three grandchildren, Travis, Haliegh and Collin and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his son Christopher; father Harold and two brothers, Randall and Robert Steria.

Funeral services are planned for Friday, June 22nd at 10:30 a.m. at the Sundquist Funeral Home with Rev. Evan Zehr officiating. Burial will be in the Beaches Bridge Cemetery.

Family and friends may call on Thursday, June 21st at the funeral home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
