A Watertown man was sentenced Monday in Jefferson County Court to 2½ years in state prison for shooting a man in the leg in April 2011.

Leonard R. Whitfield, 26, whose last know address was 139 Winslow St., Apt. 1, also was ordered to an additional two years of supervision upon his release for an April 13 guilty plea to second-degree assault. He was accused of shooting Derick D. Daniels, 25, in the leg April 3, 2011, at ABC Self-Storage, 632 Water St., while Mr. Daniels and his ex-girlfriend, Cornelia R. Campbell, 28, were retrieving her belongings from a storage shed there.

Mr. Whitfield, who was a Fort Drum soldier at the time, left the scene but surrendered to police two days later.

In other court activity:

Monique A. Ortiz, 25, Watertown, was sentenced to a year in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building for April 20 guilty pleas to fourth-degree attempted grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal mischief as a result of separate incidents. She had been accused in December of trying to steal more than $1,500 worth of items from Target, 21800 Towne Center Drive, and of damaging a door Dec. 3 at a residence at 125 E. Division St.

Michael E. Enslow, 34, Lowville, was sentenced to six months in the PSB and five years’ probation for a May 1 guilty plea to attempted aggravated criminal contempt. He admitted that he tried to violate an order of protection by attempting to physically injure Lori Snyder on Sept. 26 in the town of Pamelia. His probation supervision will be transferred to Lewis County, where he is awaiting sentencing on a second-degree strangulation conviction in connection with an assault on Ms. Snyder. His County Court sentence will run concurrently with any sentence imposed in Lewis County.

Nykolus G. Burnett, 20, Mannsville, was sentenced to an unspecified amount of time served at the PSB and three years’ probation for an April 18 guilty plea to second-degree criminal trespass. He admitted that on Feb. 24, he and two others entered a maintenance section of an apartment building at 6 Institute St., Adams, without permission. He also was ordered to pay his portion of $3,240 in restitution.

Michael J. Cowles, 46, Watertown, was sentenced to time served at the PSB and three years’ probation for third-degree identity theft and third-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle convictions. He was accused of failing to return a vehicle to his ex-girlfriend, Kim Sprague, in January, and of using her debit card to make more than $1,000 in purchases. He pleaded guilty May 25 to identity theft as a felony, but that charge was vacated Monday and he was allowed to plead guilty to the crime as a misdemeanor.

Melva L. Moore-Francis, 34, Carthage, was sentenced to three years’ probation and fined $500 for April 6 guilty pleas to driving while intoxicated as a misdemeanor and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Further information about the charges was not available from the court. She also was ordered to install an ignition interlock device on any vehicle she owns or operates.

Glenn M. Gallo, 23, Watertown, pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal possession of marijuana. He had been accused, along with his wife, Sabrina L., of possessing more than 16 ounces of the drug Sept. 15 at their 329 McClelland Street home. He is expected to be sentenced on Sept. 5 to two years in prison. It is anticipated he will be sentenced to the prison system’s Willard Drug Rehabilitation Program. If an inmate completes the 90-day program, he serves the remainder of his sentence under parole supervision. Mrs. Gallo pleaded guilty in April to fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana and is due to be sentenced to probation.

Arthur E. Mason Jr., 27, Adams, pleaded guilty to bail jumping and admitted violating Drug Court. He is expected to be sentenced July 18 to 3½ to 7 years in prison, as called for in his Drug Court contract. He was referred to the substance-abuse rehabilitation program designed to serve as an alternative to incarceration in November 2010 for a second-degree forgery conviction. Information about what led to the Drug Court violation was not available from the court.

Shawndel M. Anderson, 24, Watertown, was arraigned on two counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. The charges were contained in a grand jury indictment unsealed in court. It is alleged that he had and sold cocaine twice on the same mid-April day. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was sent to the PSB on $10,000 bail.
