CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - MASSENA - Massena-based state police charged Derek C. Sessions, 21, of 2224 state Route 420, Massena, with fourth-degree criminal mischief and third-degree assault following a domestic incident at 8:13 p.m. Sunday at his residence. Sessions allegedly punched out the drivers side window of a vehicle being operated by Curtis P. Debien and a passenger in the vehicle, Rachel E. Riley, sustained a laceration above her left eye when she was struck by flying glass when the window was broken.
Sessions was arraigned by Massena Village Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and released under the supervision of the probation department. The court signed temporary orders of protection directing Sessions to have no contact with Mr. Debien or Ms. Riley.
Ms. Riley told troopers she had just broken up with her boyfriend, and Mr. Debien was in the driveway waiting to give her a ride to her cousins house on Maple Street. She said Sessions followed her when she walked out the front door of their residence.
She said she hopped in the passengers seat, and Sessions went to the drivers side of the vehicle and started yelling at Mr. Debien. Curtis locked the doors and had the windows up. Derek told him to roll his window down; Curtis wouldnt. We were getting ready to leave. Curtis had the car in reverse and started to back out of the driveway when Derek punched the window, Ms. Riley said in her statement to police.
When Derek punched the window, I turned my head and glass hit me above my left eye and cut me, she added, noting Massena Rescue responded to the scene and bandaged her eye.
