Four-run eighth helps Wizards win exhibition
A four-run eighth inning propelled the Watertown Wizards past the Syracuse Salt Cats, 6-3, on Thursday in an exhibition game at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds.
Cole Gleason singled in two runs and Riley Norton doubled in a pair in Wizards outburst. Immaculate Heart Central graduate Anthony Magovney pitched the first six innings before Drew Quinney tossed the final three to earn the win.
More than 1,200 fourth- and fifth-graders attended the 11 a.m. game on Flag Day.
The Salt Cats are a member of the New York Collegiate Baseball League, in which Watertown played from 1999-2010.
The Wizards continue their Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League schedule by hosting Cooperstown at 7 tonight. Watertown plays at Oneonta at 7 p.m. on Saturday and returns to host Amsterdam on Sunday at 5 p.m.
