Hydrant flushing ends next week

The Ogdensburg Fire Department will start Monday on the third and final week of flushing the city’s 400-plus hydrants of sediment.

Chief Steven M. Badlam said the flushing will take place Monday through Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Discolored water will be evident. Laundering and bathing aren’t recommended during the time period.

Water for cooking and bathing should be drawn before 6 p.m.

So far, the flushing has been uneventful.

“There have been no major problems,” said Assistant Chief Raymond J. LaRock.

The flushing schedule by date and section of the city is

Monday, June 18: Starting at Jersey Avenue and Franklin Street, east on Jersey Avenue and Franklin Street, and east on Jersey Avenue to Park Street. Included are all areas in this sector south to Route 37.

Businesses include Seaway Shopping Center (A-1 Buffet, Donut King and Big Cheese Pizza), McDonald’s, Burger King, Buster’s, Park Street Agway and BOCES Northwest Tech.

Tuesday, June 19: Starting at Bigelow and Ford streets, east to Proctor Avenue as far as Williams Street.

Also the east end of the sector continuing from Williams Street and Proctor Avenue south to Route 37 and Ford Street Extension. Also on the west end of the sector continuing from Bigelow and Ford streets south to Route 37.

Businesses include Gateway Plaza (Price Chopper and China Star), Jreck’s Subs and Nice & Easy.

Wednesday, June 20: Starting at Proctor Avenue and Williams Street and including all areas east to the international bridge approach. This area includes all appropriate sections of Hayward, Anthony, Curtis, Wadhams, Lisbon and Dearborn streets.

Businesses include Vinn’s Tavern.

Thursday, June 21: All hydrants along Route 37 beginning at the intersection with Route 68 and continuing northeast to Acco Way and then continuing to Riverview Correctional Facility.

Businesses includes Parkway Travel Center (A&W/Long John Silver’s, Subway).

Friday, June 22: Commerce Park light industrial park.
