CROGHAN — A village man has been accused of swinging a broom at a Lewis County sheriff’s deputy Sunday night.

Isaac W. Russel, 33, Beehive Apartments, 9768 Route 812, was charged Thursday with third-degree menacing and second-degree harassment, answerable in Croghan Town Court.

Deputies said they responded to Mr. Russel’s apartment following a 911 call from his girlfriend, Michelle Dingman, requesting medical attention for him.

Before the Croghan ambulance arrived, deputies said, they observed Mr. Russel flopping on the floor.

He was accused of throwing items at a deputy, then crawling closer and nearly hitting him with a broom, causing Mr. Russel to be pepper-sprayed.

Mr. Russel was taken to Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, for treatment of unspecified medical issues. He is being held at Lewis County jail, Lowville, on an alleged probation violation, deputies said.

Mr. Russel in February was sentenced to six months in jail, five years’ probation, $176 restitution and a six-month driver’s license revocation on charges of fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance for selling Vicodin and Adderall in the village of Croghan.
