WEST CARTHAGE — Village officials have set four public hearings starting at 6 p.m. June 25, to hear opinions on proposed local laws and purchases for the fire department.

There are proposed local laws concerning alcohol consumption, loitering and curfew.

The officials want to prohibit the consumption of alcohol or the possession of an open container containing an alcoholic beverage on restricted public lands without a special permit.

If local law five is enacted, loitering in the Bridge Street public parking lot between 2:30 and 6 a.m. would be prohibited.

The board suggested these laws because of complaints from residents that patrons from downtown drinking establishment have been disruptive.

A curfew for Getman Park on Franklin Street is being recommended by the board so that no one will be allowed to enter or remain in the park between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. unless given special written permission by the village Board of Trustees.

The West Carthage Fire Department has requested the purchase of eight sets of turnout gear at an approximate cost of $16,000. The funds would come from the village’s equipment reserve account.

The village offices are at 61 High St.
