DEER RIVER The Lewis County Sheriffs Department is investigating a Sunday night burglary attempt at Deer River Quick Stop, Route 26.
Someone at 9:57 p.m. apparently broke out a front window at the store, setting off a burglar alarm, deputies said. Nothing appeared to be missing Monday morning, but store owners still were looking over things, they said.
They probably got scared by the alarm, which is good, said Dale W. Roberts, senior investigator at the Sheriffs Department.
Anyone with information on the alleged incident or who was in the area between 9:45 and 10 p.m. is asked to call the sheriffs office at 376-3511.
Jefferson County sheriffs deputies in early May arrested three Fort Drum soldiers for their part in an alleged late-April burglary spree that included a break-in at the Deer River store. Formal charges in Lewis County have not yet been filed but should be forthcoming against at least some of them, Mr. Roberts said.
