FORT DRUM State Sen. Patricia A. Ritchie on Friday introduced legislation to name the Fort Drum connector road the Paul Cerjan Memorial Highway, in honor of the former lieutenant general credited with major growth at the post.
Gen. Cerjan, a Rome native, is said to have planned and executed $1.2 billion in construction projects that boosted the posts profile. Serving in the Army for 34 years, he served in several groups in the area in support of the post, including the National Association of the 10th Mountain Division.
He laid the foundation for the Fort Drum that we know today, said Michael T. Plummer, president of the Northern New York-Fort Drum Chapter of the Association of the United States Army.
