HARRISVILLE Local girls looking for a girls-only camp experience may want to call the Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways soon if theyd like a spot in one of the weekly summer retreats at Camp Trefoil.
Judy Gallagher, NYPENN Pathways marketing and communications director, said two July sessions about exploring camp at night and boating adventures are completely booked. Several other sessions also quickly are filling up.
Girls should call as soon as possible to get registered, Mrs. Gallagher said Friday. Theres an extra fee for girls who are not registered Girl Scouts, but they are welcome to attend.
She said many girls who arent Girl Scouts typically sign up for the program after camp when they realize how much fun its experiences are. Not only will girls learn about camping and other outdoor activities, Mrs. Gallagher said, they also will learn core Girl Scout values discover, connect and take action.
All girls entering grades two through 12 are invited to participate in Girl Scout camp this summer.
Overnight camp sessions at Camp Trefoil, 168 Rose Road, will take place July 8 to Aug. 5.
Theme camp sessions include, but are not limited to: Adventure Bound, where girls spend the week sleeping under the stars, learning low elements on the ropes course and building a maze in the field; Paddle This Way, which has girls spend the week in and around the water, and Club Med, where girls can pamper themselves with facials, gourmet cooking, fruity drinks and a slumber party.
Mrs. Gallagher said girls from Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties also may attend other camps offered outside of the north country. They are the Yaiewano Program Center, Auburn, and the Amahami Outdoor Center, Deposit.
There will be an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at both the Yaiewano and Amahami centers, and an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Camp Trefoil.
Camp fees vary, depending on the types of sessions girls are interested in attending, but Mrs. Gallagher said the average fee is $250 per week. Financial aid is available for registered Girl Scouts. The deadline to apply for that is Friday.
