A firefighter from the Theresa Fire Department hit Friday while directing traffic at an accident scene by the vehicle of a responding Jefferson County sheriffs deputy is continuing to recover from his injuries at a Syracuse hospital.
Lance G. Willix, 67, was taken by helicopter to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, after being hit by Deputy Shaun D. Cuddebacks vehicle. On Friday night, a nursing supervisor said he was listed in fair condition.
Theresa Fire Chief Mark S. Savage said Mr. Willix called the station about 2:30 p.m. Saturday to pass on information on his condition.
Hes back to his normal self, other than the broken leg, Mr. Savage said.
In a release sent early Saturday, the sheriffs department said obstructed views owing to congestion at the accident scene may have contributed to the second accident. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Mr. Savage said a benefit for Mr. Willix is being planned.
