FELTS MILLS Some burglars may have got some cash early Monday out of an ATM at Danos Pizzeria and Restaurant, Route 971, but the shop owner suggests it may not be worth as much as hot dough.
The money box was burnt up, said Dan Bossuot, so the cash may have been burned too.
Shortly after 1 a.m. Monday, possibly two people, perhaps even three, used a cutting torch on the ATM in the unlocked breezeway to the pizza shop. Upon setting off the restaurants sprinkler system, and hence an alarm at 1:24 a.m., the thieves fled, getting away before volunteer firefighters arrived, Mr. Bossuot said.
The culprits did not enter the restaurant, he said, and there was only minor water damage in the breezeway.
State police are investigating that incident, as well as a burglary discovered Friday at S&S Salvage, Route 37, Evans Mills, where several items were stolen. No details about the break-in were available Tuesday. An investigator said there is no indication that a cutting torch was stolen from the salvage company.
