HENDERSON — The Jefferson County sheriff’s boat patrol braved choppy waters Monday morning when it headed out onto Lake Ontario to resume the search for David M. Tuttle, 45, Lowville, who disappeared Saturday morning when a boat capsized north of Stony Point.

Sheriff John P. Burns said the patrol was not ruling out suspending its search if, after getting farther out in the lake, conditions proved too risky. The sheriff said Mr. Tuttle’s family understands that what is accepted as a body recovery effort should not be risked on rough waters.

Henderson firefighters, working with state park police and state conservation law enforcement personnel, continued a shoreline search. The effort was still in progress at mid-afternoon.

The boat occupied by Mr. Tuttle and Buck Stockman, 33, both custodians at Lowville Academy and Central School, overturned after being hit by a swell of water, Mr. Stockman told deputies.
