CANTON An investigation into an accident involving a stolen van on Irish Settlement Road early April 5 has led to the arrest of two SUNY Canton students.
St. Lawrence County sheriffs deputies on Thursday charged Michael L. Moolick, 23, Schenectady, and Frederick Del Prete, 21, Ontario, N.Y., with third-degree grand larceny. Mr. Moolick also was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief.
The two are accused of stealing a Service Master van parked in the village of Canton.
Deputies said Mr. Moolick, who was driving the van, failed to make a turn from Route 68 onto Irish Settlement Road. The vehicle went off the left side of the road and crashed into a National Grid utility pole, and the two men then left the area after determining the van no longer could be driven, deputies said.
After arraignment, they were released under the supervision of the Probation Department.
Deputies said that the investigation is continuing and that more arrests are expected.
