Beaver River outlasts Sandy Creek in league semifinals

BEAVER FALLS — Rebekah Andre and Alexis O'Donnell accounted for 14 and seven kills, respectively, to help catapult Beaver River to a 25-16, 25-17, 18-25, 25-8 Frontier League "C/D" Division semifinal volleyball victory over Sandy Creek on Wednesday.

Lydia Gydesen contributed 25 service points and eight digs, and Sloane Zehr pitched in with 19 assists and two points. Taylor Grunert tallied nine kills and eight digs, and Cristen Davis recorded 14 assists and 11 points for Beaver River (15-1).

Stefani Senke supplied 10 kills, five aces, two blocks and five digs, and Samantha Pfluger added 10 assists and six digs for Sandy Creek (5-11).

LOWVILLE 3, APW 0

Tiffany Cochran served 12 points as the Red Raiders beat the Rebels, 25-11, 25-13, 25-19 in the "B" Division semifinals in Lowville.

Hayley Strife contributed 12 kills for Lowville (12-3).

Val McDermott had four kills and three aces for Altmar-Parish-Williamstown (0-15).

SOUTH JEFFERSON 3,

GENERAL BROWN 1

Emily Pfeil provided 17 assists and six aces to lead the Spartans past the Lions 25-13, 25-16, 18-25, 25-12 in a "B" Division semifinal in Adams.

Samantha Snyder supplied 15 kills, Danielle Bartlett had 12 kills and Nicole Lalone added four aces for South Jefferson (14-4).

General Brown (4-13) received six kills from Brachell Jiles.

WRESTLING

SANDY CREEK 71, APW 6

Kris Shirley recorded his 180th career win with a pin in the 145-pound weight class to highlight the Comets' interdivision victory at Sandy Creek.

Fellow senior Andy Blanding also won by pinfall for Sandy Creek (25-5, 9-2), which registered seven pins.

IHC 46, WATERTOWN 21

Jaden Grill (140 pounds) recorded the Cavaliers' only win by pinfall in an "A" Division victory over the visiting Cyclones.

Aaron West (152) also won for IHC (12-9, 5-6), which claimed six matches by forfeit.

Chris Williams (103) and Dylan Justice (145) recorded pins for Watertown (0-25, 0-12).

BOYS BASKETBALL

COPENHAGEN 62, LAFARGEVILLE 44

Blake LaBarge's 17 points guided the Golden Knights to a "D" Division victory in LaFargeville.

Josh Spaulding and Chris Kellogg each added nine points for Copenhagen (10-6, 8-6).

Garett Robbins drained five 3-pointers while scoring 24 points for the Red Knights (3-13, 2-12).

HOCKEY

ST. LAWRENCE 2, SALMON RIVER 1

Brady Helmer scored one goal and assisted on another to lead St. Lawrence Central to a victory over Salmon River in a Northern Athletic Conference Division II game in Fort Covington.

Jack Keenan also scored for the Larries (12-6 overall, 8-2 division).

Kevin Davie scored for the Shamrocks (7-7-2, 5-4-2).

POTSDAM 4, ALEXANDRIA 0

Evan Drummater stopped 24 shots to lead the Sandstoners past the Purple Ghosts (6-8, 3-7) in an interdivision game in Potsdam.

Dakota Ford, Ryan Merriman, Greg Burkum and Seth Adams scored for the Sandstoners (10-7-1, 6-3-1).

NORWOOD-NORFOLK 9, MALONE 4

Alex Ploof supplied three goals and one assist to lead Norwood-Norfolk in a Division II game in Malone.

Chuck Wagstaff scored three goals for the Flyers (9-7, 7-3).

Jared Marshall led Malone (2-13, 0-9) with two goals and an assist.
