Two Quebec men were sentenced in federal court to time served for possessing about 100 pounds of marijuana after a traffic stop in the village of Canton.

Sebastien Fredette, 22, and Mathieu Langlois, 23, were sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Syracuse to serve three years' probation. The two pleaded guilty in December to conspiring to possess marijuana with intent to distribute.

St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies stopped them May 28, 2008, near P&C Foods on Route 11, for erratic driving, federal court records show. A deputy noticed a large hockey equipment bag on the back seat and asked to search the vehicle. Mr. Fredette allegedly declined the request.

Mr. Fredette then allowed a U.S. Border Patrol agent to run a K-9 unit around the outside of the vehicle and the dog alerted to the vehicle. The agent searched its interior, allegedly finding two hockey bags and one black garbage bag holding marijuana.

Mr. Fredette told federal agents he was to be paid $100 per pound of marijuana he carried upon his return to Quebec.
