ALEXANDRIA BAY — The village's municipal building on Walton Street will be revamped thanks to volunteers from the Alexandria Bay Volunteer Fire Department and workers at 34 & Co., Watertown.

Trustee Steven E. Jarvis said the fire department and 34 & Co. each offered to donate labor for two separate projects — interior work in the community room and rewiring of the kitchen — and asked the town only to provide the materials needed.

So far, two electricians from 34 & Co. have almost finished rewiring the electrical circuits in the kitchen. Mr. Jarvis said the wiring has been inadequate. The workers will finish rewiring today, install new circuits for the freezer and add another outlet to the kitchen.

The village spent less than $300 for the materials for the job, he said.

This spring, members of the fire department will volunteer to repaint, recaulk and wax the floors in the interior areas of the municipal building.

Trustee Helethea R. Roy said the walls of the municipal building probably have not been painted for almost 12 years. The municipal building was completed in 1997, when she was the village mayor.

"The work will be done over spring break," Mr. Jarvis said.

All the village needs to do is purchase caulk and 10 gallons of paint and wax, he said. The materials will cost less than $500.

About 10 people from the fire department will work on the community room project. The Alexandria Bay Fire Hall will be repainted at the same time.
