ADAMS CENTER — Jefferson County Republicans will throw their 13th summer party Aug. 17 at the Backyard Farmer, 12139 Route 11.

Historically a clambake, the event has dropped the bivalve mollusks from the menu this year to keep admission prices steady. This year's menu will feature chicken and pulled pork, salad, baked beans and corn. Admission is $40, $5 less than last year. Children under 13 can attend for free.

The Savory Cafe, Watertown, will cater the event. J and The Two Tones will provide entertainment.

As is tradition, the event will be free of speeches by campaigning politicians. U.S. Rep. John M. McHugh, R-Pierrepont Manor, and Assemblywoman Dierdre K. Scozzafava, R-Gouverneur, are expected to attend. So are David A. Renzi, the party's state Senate candidate, and Robert W. "Bobby" Cantwell III, a candidate for the 118th Assembly District.

Jefferson County Democrats haven't finalized the details of their September barbecue and fundraiser, but have invited state Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo to attend. The event, either Sept. 5 or Sept. 6, will be at the residence of Ralph A. and Nancy D. Brown, 16040 Route 11. An admission price hasn't been set.

Sean M. Hennessey, committee chairman, said the party will once again feature a "joke-off," which was well-received at last year's event with state Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.
