Watertown native Jim Berkman was selected Tuesday as Division III coach of the year in men's lacrosse, according to a news release from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.
Berkman, the all-time winningest coach in NCAA Division III men's lacrosse history, completed his 20th season at the helm of the Salisbury University lacrosse team. The Sea Gulls earned the NCAA Division III national championship, for the second-straight year, with a 19-13 victory over SUNY Cortland. Salisbury also completed the season undefeated, for the sixth time in Berkman's career as well as in school history, with a 22-0 record.
Berkman's career mark is 320-30. He has led Salisbury to eight national titles, 20-straight NCAA tournament appearances and 14 Capital Athletic Conference championships.
