The Coast Guard suspended its hunt Wednesday afternoon for a possible aircraft crash in Lake Ontario, according to Matthew Schofield, petty officer of the Ninth Coast Guard District Public Affairs.
The search was prompted after the Coast Guard received an uncorrelated mayday transmission in the Rochester area about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
A rescue helicopter, response boats, a utility boat, a pleasure craft and a Canadian search plane searched for the aircraft approximately 30 miles north of Sodus Point, which is between Oswego and Rochester.
Searchers were unable to locate signs of a crash, and the search has been suspended, officials said.
