Combs guides Chicago to MLL upset of Denver

The Chicago Machine, led by head coach and former Immaculate Heart Central athlete John Combs, upended Denver 16-13 on Saturday night for its first Major League Lacrosse win of the season.

Chicago (1-5) broke Denver's four-game winning streak. Denver (5-1), which leads the Western Division, received two goals and four assists from former Carthage standout Ryan Powell.

■ Former Carthage star Mikey Powell received game MVP honors after recording three goals and five assists in Boston's 21-14 MLL victory over San Francisco on Saturday. Former IHC player Brendan Loftus scored three goals for San Francisco.
