The Learning Disability Association North Country will hold its seventh annual conference from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 2 at Bonnie Castle Resort, Alexandria Bay.

The daylong presentation will discuss why students struggle with sensory issues, motor skill problems and attention issues. Participants will learn ideas for improving fine and gross motor and attention and visual tracking skills.

Sandi Kirch, project coordinator for the association, said she hopes people will learn from attending the conference that giving a child who has any learning or developmental disability an edge to feel successful will make him or her go far in life.

"This is a perfect follow-up from last year's conference on autism because that's a sensory issue," she said. "It'll also focus on learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder and other developmental disabilities."

Cynthia Roth Pahr, founder of EduCLIME, a program designed to help general and special education students improve motor efficiency, is the guest speaker.

The facility can accommodate up to 180 people for the event, Ms. Kirch said.

People interested in attending the conference should have their registration fees in by Friday. The cost is $30, $40 and $50 for students, parents and professionals, respectively. The cost for agencies or schools sending three or more people is $45 each. Lunch is included in the registration fee.

Scholarships are available through the state Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities and the United Way of Northern New York for parents or family members who otherwise can't afford the full registration fee.

Checks or money orders should be made payable to LDA of Mohawk Valley, and sent with a registration form to Learning Disability Association, 210 Court St., Suite 102, Watertown, N.Y. 13601. For more information or a registration form, call 785-9440.
