Police say pair trespassed
on lot, stole scrap metal
Watertown police have charged a man and a woman with trespassing on property at Stafford Machine, 787 Pearl St., to steal scrap metal.
Robert L. Bell II, 19, and Henrietta S. Hoffman, 33, both of 169 E. Division St., are summoned to City Court to answer to charges of petit larceny and third-degree criminal trespass. Ms. Hoffman is additionally cited with endangering the welfare of a child, because police say she was accompanied by a 15-year-old youth at the time of the theft.
They are accused of entering a fenced-in area of the business, owned by Charles E. Stafford, Black River, about 11 a.m. May 11 and taking scrap metal valued at $145.45, police said. Information provided by witnesses led to the arrests, police said.

charged with harassment
PIERREPONT MANOR — A teenager here was cited Monday with harassment and disorderly conduct after she was involved in a domestic fight, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.
Tara L. Gill, 17, of 15721 County Route 91, initially was charged with harassment on allegations that she scratched her mother, Melissa S. Medovich, 35, same address, on the right arm, drawing blood, while Ms. Medovich was driving late in the afternoon on Route 193 in the town of Ellisburg, a deputy reported.
The second charge was added because she shouted profanities during the investigation of the original complaint at their residence, according to the sheriff's office.
Calcium resident accused
of sexual abuse of girl, 13
A Calcium man was jailed this morning on allegations that he has been having sexual conduct with a 13-year-old girl, according to state police.
Ronald J. McElhone, 58, of 24428 Route 11, Lot 72, is charged with four counts of second-degree criminal sexual act, fourth-degree aggravated sexual abuse, two counts of unlawfully dealing with a child and endangering the welfare of a child.
Police cited him in incidents occurring over the past three months.
LeRay Town Justice George E. Mead III set bail at $40,000, sending him to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building. He awaits grand jury action.
Illegal alien's ruse fails
as he claims citizenship
MASSENA — A Dominican Republic citizen who falsely claimed to be a United States citizen during an inspection at the port of entry here has been sentenced to time served for the incident.
Sergio Leonidas Cabrera-Reyes, 30, formerly of Reading, Pa., was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court, Syracuse, to a total of 203 days' time served. He was immediately remanded to the custody of the Department of Homeland Security for deportation proceedings.
He had pleaded guilty Jan. 7 to making a false claim of United States citizenship. Mr. Cabrera-Reyes had falsely claimed to be a U.S. citizen born in Puerto Rico during an immigration inspection Oct. 30 at the Massena port of entry.
City man runs stop sign
on bicycle, is hit by car
A bicyclist ran a stop sign at Clay and Sterling streets Tuesday afternoon and was struck by a car, according to Watertown police.
Joshua J. Peck, 25, of 324 Clay St., was thrown onto the windshield of the car, with his back taking the bulk of the collision, a witness said. He was examined by Guilfoyle Ambulance personnel at the scene and declined to be taken to the hospital, police said.
Mr. Peck was riding north on Clay Street about 2:40 p.m. when he went into the path of an eastbound auto driven by Jessica V. Jackson, 25, of 1708 Ohio St., police said.
Fight at Norwood-Norfolk
ends in arrest of teenager
NORFOLK — Jonathan R. Gurrola, 17, of 335 Regan Road, Norwood was charged Monday with third-degree assault after fighting a 16-year-old boy at Norwood-Norfolk Central School, state police said.
No injuries were reported. Mr. Gurrola was issued an appearance ticket for today in Norfolk Town Court.
