Resident of group home

found at former motel

LOWVILLE — A resident of an Upstate Cerebral Palsy home here was found early Monday after a one-day search.

Lewis County sheriff's deputies said Roque O. Kuntz, 23, of 5714 Waters Road, was found in the laundry room at the former Roaring Brook Motel, now an apartment complex, at Route 12 and Tiffany Road in the town of Martinsburg. The building is several miles south of Mr. Kuntz's residence.

"He was wet but otherwise in good medical condition and released to caregivers on Waters Road for further evaluation," a Sheriff's Department release said.

Mr. Kuntz, who suffers from mild retardation and has a history of seizures, had last been seen at 5 a.m. Sunday at his residence.

Sheriff L. Michael Tabolt credited local residents and media for assisting the search efforts. State police, state environmental conservation officers and Lewis County Search and Rescue also participated in the search.

Fort Drum man arrested

in two separate incidents

Separate arrests Sunday prompted the jailing of a Fort Drum man twice, and on Monday he was turned over to military authorities.

Ryan D. Nelson, 23, of 26714 Anabel Ave., Evans Mills, was initially charged early Sunday by Watertown police with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He had a pistol and 47 rounds of ammunition in a parking lot on State Street, police alleged.

After he was taken to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, bail of $1,000 was posted and he was released.

State police then arrested him on a charge of third-degree assault in connection with a domestic fight alleged to have occurred about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. His wife, Jennifer, 23, reported that he struck her in the face, giving her a black eye, police said.

Bail was set at $500 in the second arrest, and he was held until 11:30 a.m., when he was handed over to the Army.

Woman suffers concussion

in rear-end ATV accident

BARNES CORNERS — An Oneida County woman was injured in an all-terrain vehicle crash at 1:20 p.m. Saturday on Seven By Nine Road in the town of Pinckney.

Lewis County sheriff's deputies said Amy M. Blum, 31, Whitesboro, was southbound when she rear-ended another ATV driven by Deborah L. Smith, 41, of 19125 Waite Road, Adams Center.

Ms. Blum's vehicle went off the right side of the road, down a steep embankment, over a ditch and into a tree. She suffered a concussion and was taken by Lewis County Search and Rescue to Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, where she was treated and released.

Ms. Smith was not injured.

Ms. Blum was charged with following too closely, answerable in Pinckney Town Court.

Copenhagen firefighters assisted at the scene.

Man faces more charges

over failure to do work

Criminal charges continue to mount against a Watertown man.

Shawn M. Schroy, 38, of 217 Haney St., was arrested Monday by state police on a charge of third-degree grand larceny. He awaits grand jury action on allegations that he accepted $35,000 for the purpose of building a garage for Martin and Julia Clement, Henderson, then failed to do the work and failed to deposit the money in a trust account, as required by lien law, according to police. He was released without bail by Pamelia Town Justice Richard C. Baker.

In March, he was charged with issuing bad checks in the amounts of $7,500 and $3,000 to Ken Tibbles Roofing, 820 W. Main St., and he also was indicted by the grand jury in March on third-degree counts of selling and possessing a controlled substance. He is accused of selling cocaine.

Hermon teenager faces

drug possession charge

GOUVERNEUR — Kelly S. Edwards, 18, of Church Street, Hermon, was charged Sunday with having prescription pills not prescribed for him and a small amount of marijuana in his vehicle after being stopped on Rowley Street, state police said.

He was charged with three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count each of unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under age 21, police said.

He had bottles of sleeping pills and painkillers in his vehicle, along with an open rum bottle, police said.

Martinsburg man accused

of assaulting his brother

MARTINSBURG — A Martinsburg man was charged early Monday with punching his younger brother and kicking him with steel-toed boots at their 6289 Water St. residence.

Lewis County sheriff's deputies charged Jason D. Ortlieb, 28, with third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, answerable in Martinsburg Town Court.

Mr. Ortlieb allegedly assaulted Matthew J. Ortlieb, 25, in the presence of their 16-year-old brother.

Williamsville man cited

with disorderly conduct

POTSDAM —Anthony K. Dipirro, 22, Williamsville, was charged with disorderly conduct early Sunday, village police said.

Mr. Dipirro was cited after police received a complaint that someone was causing damage on Market Street. He was seen being disruptive, police said.

He is to answer the charge May 28 in Potsdam Village Court.

Gouverneur man charged

in fight with ex-girlfriend

CARTHAGE — A Gouverneur man faces prosecution in Village Court on charges of fourth-degree criminal mischief and second-degree harassment.

Andrew C. Hadfield, 19, is cited in an incident May 1 involving a property dispute with his former girlfriend, Sarah E. Niger, 23, of 252 West St., police said. He threatened her and smashed her plant dishes, police alleged.

Police: woman bounced

3 checks at grocery store

LAFARGEVILLE — A woman here is summoned to town of Orleans Court to answer to three counts of issuing bad checks, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

Stephanie L. Forsythe, 20, is accused of bouncing three checks totaling $78.54 that were issued between Jan. 24 and Feb. 3 to LaFargeville Market, a deputy reported.

Woman allegedly sent

threatening text message

Donna S. Wilson, 39, of 631 LeRay St., was charged Sunday by state police with aggravated harassment, and is ordered to appear in Adams Town Court.

Her former boyfriend, Joel Dealing, 11105 Bishop St., Adams, filed a complaint on April 28 that she had sent him a threatening text message, police said.

Watertown man facing

charge of trespassing

Jon P. Neujean, 28, of 621 Mundy St., is summoned to City Court to face a charge of second-degree criminal trespass, according to Watertown police.

He is accused of entering Sunday night another apartment in the same house, the residence of Robert G. Woodward, police said.

Forestport man accused

of hitting another in face

WEST LEYDEN — Lewis County sheriff's deputies on Friday charged William B. Shutts, 20, Forestport, with third-degree assault.

Mr. Shutts on May 9 allegedly hit Brian S. Marsden in the face during a party at a town of Lewis residence. He is to appear in Lewis Town Court.

Police: man threatened

his neighbor with knife

Boyce A. Hoyle III, 36, of 903 Academy St., Apt. 3, was charged by city police Sunday with second-degree menacing.

He is accused of threatening his neighbor, Jesse Jennings, 42, Apt. 4, with a knife on the front porch of their apartment house, police said.

Watertown woman faces

a charge of harassment

A woman was cited with harassment Sunday night while Watertown police were dealing with a domestic fight in her home.

Police said Robin M. Foley, 45, of 744 Hancock St., Apt. 4, pushed an officer's arm while trying to walk past him. She is due to appear in City Court.

Carthage woman accused

of endangering children

CARTHAGE — Tina M. Delong, 41, of 590 S. James St., is ordered to appear in Village Court because she has allowed her children to go to Brady Acres, according to Carthage police.

She was cited Wednesday with endangering the welfare of a child because she ignored repeated warnings to keep her children away from the housing complex, police said.
