Weekend ribbon cuttings held for 3 more wind farms in N.Y.
TUESDAY, MAY 20, 2008

Three wind farms, two in Clinton County and one in Wyoming County, have officially begun operating.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Sunday for the 100.5-megawatt Noble Bliss Windpark in Wyoming County and a joint ceremony was held Saturday for the 100.5-megawatt Noble Clinton Windpark and the 81-megawatt Noble Ellenburg Windpark.

"Wind energy is moving New York towards energy independence and a cleaner environment, and these new windparks play a critical part," Noble Environmental Power CEO Walt Howard said in a press release announcing the ceremonies. "The availability of this clean, renewable energy source means that New Yorkers have better energy choices that protect our environment and improve our lives. We look forward to building on the tremendous progress that has been made here in New York."

The three wind farms increase the state's installed wind capacity by 70 percent, the company said.

The wind farms represent a $560 million investment that is projected to create a total of $431 million in additional revenue for their respective communities over the next 20 years.

The farms have a combined 188 turbines, each of 1.5 megawatts, capable of producing enough energy to power 93,000 homes.

By year's end, Noble is scheduled to have a total of 633 megawatts of wind energy online in New York, making it the state's largest wind developer, the company said.
