Lois Galloway just kept coming back for more.

That's the best way to describe her long and distinguished career in the Women's City Golf Championship.

Galloway took home her first crown in 1947; she placed second in the tournament in 1991. Overall, she registered a record total of 18 victories, including seven in a row from '47-'53 and six in a row from '63-'68. Her final two championships came in '73 and '86. She was a runner-up 12 times.

Born Lois Mallen on Sept. 26, 1926, in Alexandria Bay, Galloway started playing golf at age 12 and credits her late mother, Amy, for teaching her the sport. Galloway's late father, James, coached the U.S. hockey team in the 1932 Olympics in Lake Placid and spent two seasons as head coach at St. Lawrence University.

Galloway honed her golf skills while living in Morrisburg, Ontario, her father's hometown. After a move back to the United States, Galloway and her mother each went on to become members of the Watertown Golf Club.

Galloway won her first club championship in 1947 and captured the last of her record 20 WGC titles in 1987. She also made two holes-in-one on the fifth hole at WGC and appeared in five state amateur tournaments.

She married Robert Galloway in 1952 at Watertown's First Presbyterian Church. He died in 1999.

Formerly an avid bowler, Lois Galloway remains an active member of the church and enjoys playing bridge.
