MONDAY, MAY 19, 2008

SACKETS HARBOR — Three local organizations will host a program on the War of 1812 at 7 p.m. Wednesday as part of their combined annual meetings.

The program, "1812: New York's War, New York's Impetus," will be given by Robert W. Arnold III, public historian at the College of Saint Rose. The New York Council for the Humanities is paying for the program.

The program will be at the red barn on the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site and is free and open to the public. The program will show the effect of the war and its aftermath on the people of New York and the public improvements, roads and canals made partly in response to the war.

Before the presentation, the Sackets Harbor Battlefield Alliance, Sackets Harbor Historical Society and Sackets Harbor Area Cultural Preservation Foundation will hold their annual business meetings at 6 p.m.
