CLAYTON — William E. Bender, 82, Merrick Street, died Sunday morning at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Syracuse, where he had been a patient since May 1, when he was transferred from Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Clayton United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors provided by members of Clayton American Legion Colon Couch Post 821 will be in Clayton Cemetery.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Cummings Funeral Service, 320 John St.
