CANTON — A Winthrop man who completed a year on interim probation was permitted to withdraw a plea of guilty to felony grand larceny and enter a new plea to a misdemeanor before sentencing Thursday in St. Lawrence County Court.

Matthew J. Seaver,25, was granted a one-year conditional discharge after pleading guilty to petit larceny. The guilty plea satisfied charges stemming from the theft of an all-terrain vehicle and an 8,000-watt generator belonging to Warren M. Plumadore, Stockholm, in March 2006. He pleaded guilty to grand larceny in March 2007 and paid $1,692.88 restitution before sentencing. He was ordered to pay a $50 court fee.

In other proceedings,Robert L. White,21, Waddington, was ordered held in county jail after testing positive in March, April and before court Thursday for marijuana use. He is to be back in court June 10 but may be released earlier to a drug abuse treatment program.

Mr. White was sentenced to probation in March 2004 after pleading guilty to attempted burglary. He was resentenced later that year to 90 days in jail after admitting probation violations, including the use of marijuana.

Andrew C. Wells,20, Ogdensburg, pleaded innocent to fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. He is alleged to have been in possession of a stolen rifle belonging to Timothy J. Reese, Ogdensburg, in late November.
