SACKETS HARBOR — Memorial Day observances in the village will begin at 8 a.m. May 26 with a tribute to vete-rans at Harold W. Townsend American Legion Post 1757 on Ambrose Street. A wreath will be laid at 8:15 a.m. at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site's War of 1812 Centennial Monument in the Memorial Tree Grove.
From 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., ceremonies continue at the Sulphur Springs, Sackets Harbor Military and Lakeside cemeteries and at the Madison Barracks War of 1812 burial grounds.
A parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. from the Sackets Harbor Central School with the school band, Legion members, a Fort Drum unit and village dignitaries, ending at the village dock.
A program will follow at the dock, including a guest speaker from Fort Drum. A concert and chicken barbecue will follow at the Legion post.
