Orleans man is accused
of threatening his mother
LAFARGEVILLE — A town of Orleans man faces a charge that he threatened his mother over the phone.
Timothy W. Davis, 35, of 35189 County Route 15, was charged by Jefferson County sheriff's deputies at 5:45 p.m. Monday with second-degree aggravated harassment. Police said the charge stemmed from a domestic dispute during which he allegedly threatened to kill Shirley Davis, 36421 Penet Square, Apt. 709. She told police that he had switched plates on his vehicle and was driving without a license.
He is to answer the charge in Orleans Town Court.
Two Amish men accused
of trespass at junkyard
DEPAUVILLE — Two Amish men were charged Tuesday with trespassing at a junkyard on private property in April.
Andrew M. Hostetler and Danny M. Hostetler, both 21 and both of 32113 County Route 54, were charged by Jefferson County sheriff's deputies based on a complaint by James D. Paige, 19151 Star Schoolhouse Road, town of Brownville.
Mr. Paige, owner of Paige's Junkyard across the road from his home, told police he observed the two men driving a horse and buggy past his house and down a road into his business, which has "no trespassing" signs on it. Mr. Paige asked the men why they were on his property and told them he was calling police. The alleged incident occurred April 17. The men were issued appearance tickets for Brownville Town Court.
Man gets 90-day sentence
for violation of probation
A Clayton man was resentenced Wednesday in Jefferson County Court to 90 days in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building after admitting in court that he violated probation.
Steve A. Evans, 25, of 17225 County Route 5, was sentenced to three years' probation in March 2007 after pleading guilty in December 2006 to second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and driving while intoxicated as a misdemeanor. He was accused of DWI and driving without a license in May 2006 in Alexandria Bay.
According to court documents, he violated probation by failing to comply with substance abuse treatment recommendations.
He also was charged Monday by state police with third-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, making a punishable false written statement and petit larceny for allegedly stealing a pickup truck in the town of Clayton and stealing tools from a relative's home.
Gouverneur inmate held
as fugitive on Ohio counts
GOUVERNEUR — A Queens man who was released from prison Wednesday was charged by St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies with being a fugitive from justice in Ohio.
Richard E. Brown, 39, was arrested by deputies following his release from Gouverneur Correctional Facility, where he had been serving a two- to four-year sentence for burglary. He is wanted in Ohio for contempt of court after failing to appear in court on a felony assault charge, deputies said. He was arraigned in Town Court and was ordered held in St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, pending extradition to Ohio.
