An Ogdensburg drug dealer who was charged in December 2006 with conspiracy to distribute drugs was found guilty Friday in U.S. District Court, Syracuse.
Terry J. Murray, 49, is to be sentenced Sept. 29 and faces the possibility of a life prison sentence because of three prior felony convictions. The conviction carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison.
Mr. Murray, whose nickname is "Chewer," was one of six people arrested on federal conspiracy charges following an investigation by members of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force into the importation of cocaine from Rochester and Syracuse into St. Lawrence County. The other five previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges. They have sentencing dates beginning later this month.
Mr. Murray, who lived at 720 Jay St., Ogdensburg, a home that was guarded by an elaborate video surveillance system, was suspected of being the leader of a ring that distributed both powdered and crack cocaine in Ogdensburg and the vicinity.
A Nov. 1 search of the home by state and federal investigators led to the seizure of some 8 ounces of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and more than $30,000 worth of vehicles. They included two BMW automobiles, an all-terrain vehicle, a snowmobile and a trailer.
The other conspirators included his live-in girlfriend, Sonyia L. Trimm, 35, who pleaded guilty to conspiracy in July. She is to be sentenced May 30. The other confessed conspirators are Gregory A. "Digger" James, Heuvelton; Randy A. "Snap" Coller, 46, Ogdensburg; Johnny L. "Supersnap" Bogardus, 42, Ogdensburg, and Amber M. Murray, 32, Ogdensburg.
Mr. Murray was found guilty on the fifth day of a jury trial in Syracuse. He was sentenced in 2002 in St. Lawrence County Court, Canton, to two to four years in prison for cocaine possession.
