Comets' Jones fans 18 in win
MOUND MASTERY: Carthage scores twice in seventh to back outing

PHILADELPHIA — Katie Jones struck out 18 batters, and Carthage scored two in the top of the seventh for a 4-2 Frontier League "A" Division softball victory over Indian River on Monday.

Taylor Kelsey also turned in a strong pitching performance, finishing with 11 strikeouts for Indian River (6-7 overall, 2-3 league).

Jessica Wilkinson went 3-for-3, while Jessica Dobson-Tufo had two hits for Carthage (5-6, 3-2).

WATERTOWN 15,

IMMACULATE HEART 0

Brittany Patenaude provided three hits, including a triple, and four RBIs as the Cyclones picked up a decisive "A" Division win at the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds.

Caitlin Dreisbach also had three hits and drove in four runs, while Jennifer Jones went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBIs for Watertown (2-10, 1-4), which pounded out eight of its 18 hits in the fifth inning.

Jill Gullo went 2-for-3 with a double for IHC (1-7, 0-5).

THOUSAND ISLANDS 5,

GENERAL BROWN 0

Jamie Wiley went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI as the Vikings defeated the Lions in a crossover game in Brownville.

Sara Orvis was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Nicole Griffin had an RBI for Thousand Islands (9-1, 8-1).

Karilynn Pfister and Chelsea Monroe each had an RBI for General Brown (9-7, 4-5).

COPENHAGEN 4, LYME 0

Olivia Sullivan fired a 10-strikeout, one-hitter during a "D" Division game at Copenhagen.

The Golden Knights (2-6, 2-5) took control with a three-run third, when Jessalyn Pond smacked a two-run single.

In the third inning, Tia Henderson had the only hit for Lyme (0-7).

BELLEVILLE HENDERSON 10,

ALEXANDRIA 9

Judith Anderson drove in Brittany Grimshaw with a hit in the bottom of the sixth to provide the winning run for the host Panthers in a "D" Division game.

Alexandria pitcher Cassandra Lingenfelter enjoyed a memorable game in spite of the narrow loss. Finishing with nine strikeouts, the senior hurler set a school record for career strikeouts. Lingenfelter, who also hit a single, a double and a triple, has now fanned 272 batters.

Former Purple Ghosts standout and current Norwood-Norfolk coach Becky Byrns (265) was the previous leader.

Grimshaw also slugged a homer for Belleville Henderson (4-6, 4-5).

Tiffany Lingenfelter went 4-for-5, while Sabrina Sochia had three hits for Alexandria (2-5).

SACKETS HARBOR 6, LAFARGEVILLE 3

Jenna Weaver and Jessica Nappi each went 2-for-4 to lead the Patriots past the Red Knights for first place in the Frontier League "D" Division at LaFargeville.

Meghan Higgins and Courtney Allen hit a double apiece for Sackets Harbor (5-6, 4-3).

Alyssa Williams was 2-for-3 with a triple for LaFargeville (5-4, 3-4).

CANTON 9, NORWOOD-NORFOLK 1

Kacie Wentworth threw a two-hitter, striking out 11, to lead Canton to a Northern Athletic Conference Central Division victory in Norwood.

Wentworth also went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs for Canton (8-1 overall, 5-1 division). Heather Lottie went 3-for-3 for the Golden Bears.

The Flyers fell to 5-6, 3-4.

MASSENA 1, OFA 0

Pinch-runner Kayla Dennis scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Red Raiders (5-3, 4-2) a Central Division win over OFA in Massena.

Marci Silver singled to lead off the inning and was replaced by Dennis. Sierra Streeter struck out eight for Massena. Katie Nelson had 14 strikeouts for OFA (3-3).

HERMON-DEKALB 5, LISBON 1

Whitney Stiles had two hits to help Hermon-DeKalb (5-4, 5-2) hand Lisbon its first loss of the season in a West Division game in DeKalb Junction. Jess Mehaffy and Jackie LaFave doubled for Lisbon (3-1).

EDWARDS-KNOX 12-10,

MORRISTOWN 6-3

Miranda Typhair was the winning pitcher in both games of a West Division doubleheader as the Cougars (6-1, 5-0) swept Morristown in Russell.

Typhair homered in game one and struck out eight in game two. Macy VanArnam had two hits in each game for Morristown (2-9, 1-7).
