Albert A. Balukjian

POTSDAM — The funeral for Albert A. Balukjian, 84, Potsdam, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Christopher A. Brown, rector, officiating. Burial will be in Bayside Cemetery.

Mr. Balukjian died Friday at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Seymour Funeral Home, with a Masonic service at 8 p.m.

He was a professor of mechanical engineering for 31 years at Clarkson College, now Clarkson University, and served as associate director of research. He retired in 1986 and was granted professor emeritus status.

Born May 25, 1923, in Los Angeles, Calif., son of Karaken and Serpouhi Davidian Balukjian, he earned his bachelor of science degree with honors in mechanical engineering in 1955 and his master of science degree in mechanical engineering in 1964, both from Clarkson.

He married Naomi Ruth Himmeger on Aug. 4, 1946, in Wallace Memorial Chapel, Westminster College, New Wilmington, Pa.

He served in the Army with the 95th Infantry Division in Europe during World War II.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry, and Masonic Lodge 513, Massena, and was past president of Pi Tau Sigma Fraternity and Tau Beta Pi at Clarkson. He also was a member of the Little Theatre orchestra and Elks Club band, both in Massena, the Community Band of Potsdam, St. Lawrence University Symphonic Orchestra, Canton, and Omicron Pi Omicron social fraternity.

Surviving besides his wife are a son and his wife, Dr. James A. and Nicette, Greenville, R.I.; two daughters and their husbands, Margo and Dr. Zareh Demirjian, Belmont, Mass., and Marilyn and Lt. Col. William Clerkin, Fairfax, Va.; a brother and his wife, Sarkis and Alice, Massena; a sister and her husband, Margaret and James Bonner, Watertown, three grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
