Carlice C. Ruttan Sr.

Carlice C. Ruttan Sr., 86, of 18036 Allen Road, town of Brownville, died Sunday evening in the emergency room of Samaritan Medical Center.

Mr. Ruttan was a machinist at New York Air Brake Co., Black Clawson Co. and Frink Sno-Plow, Clayton, retiring in 1987.

Born Oct. 4, 1921, in the town of Watertown, son of William H. and Myrtle E. Smith Ruttan, he grew up in Perch River area and attended a one-room schoolhouse.

He married Ruth H. Sterling in 1948 in Hugo, Okla. She died Dec. 31, 1997.

Mr. Ruttan served as a cook in the Army during World War II. On Dec. 7, 1941, he was serving at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked. He was honorably discharged.

Mr. Ruttan enjoyed long trips in his car, attending local sports events and flying.

Surviving are three sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald L., North Carolina, Carlice C. Jr. and Wendy, LaFargeville, and William H., Dexter; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sandra J. Gosier and Sheila L. and John Ingerson, all of Watertown, and Donna M. and Daniel Spencer, Victor; two brothers, Ralph and Russell, both of LaFargeville; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Ruth Helen, four brothers, Harold, Robert, Bertrand and Floyd, and two sisters, Elsie Wilder and Lola Brown, died before him.

A gathering of friends and family will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at his home. The body will be cremated. Burial will be at a later date in Perch Lake Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa.
