The funeral for Marjory P. Schilling, 89, Watertown, formerly of 13990 Route 11, Adams Center, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Piddock Funeral Home, Adams, with the Rev. Leon I. VanWie, pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Adams Center.

Mrs. Schilling died Sunday afternoon at Samaritan Keep Home, where she had been a resident since 2003.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Schilling was employed at Montgomery Ward Department Store, and, in 1953, became a saleswoman and buyer in the fabric, notions, art and needlework and linen departments at F.A. Empsall Department Store, retiring after 40 years.

Born Feb. 3, 1919, in Henderson, daughter of Clarence and Harriet Laura Snow Penney, she graduated as salutatorian from Henderson Central School.

She married Reginald W. Schilling on Sept. 5, 1942, at All Souls Universalist Church. The couple lived in Adams Center all of their married lives. Mr. Schilling died Jan. 5, 1970.

Mrs. Schilling enjoyed gardening, knitting and crocheting and participating in activities of local senior citizens groups, especially dancing. She taught adult education classes in knitting and needlework in area schools and privately for many years.

She was a member of the Henderson Universalist Church, a charter member and first president of the Adams Center Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and a member and past matron of Eudora Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are a son and his wife, the Rev. Leon E. "Toby" and Myrtie, Watertown; a granddaughter, a grandson and several nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Raymond and Russell Penney, and a sister, Hortense P. Hughes, died before her.
