Ross, Fensel to captain SLU hockey in 2008-09

CANTON — The St. Lawrence University men's hockey team picked two familiar faces as captains for the 2008-09 season at its annual awards banquet Saturday.

For the second straight year, defensemen Shawn Fensel and Jared Ross will guide the Saints in their senior seasons. Fensel, a Nepean, Ontario, native, finished with three goals and 12 assists in 34 games for SLU this past season. A native of Stony Island, Nova Scotia, Ross provided six goals and nine assists in 35 games.

St. Lawrence also handed out nine awards at the banquet. Brock McBride was chosen as the team's Most Valuable Player. The forward from Cornwall, Ontario, produced team highs in goals (12) and assists (22) in his junior campaign. Massena native Aaron Bogosian was picked as the squad's Rookie of the Year after registering 12 points and playing all 37 games in his first season.

Other SLU award winners were: Most Improved, John Hallas, goaltender; Brian P. Doyle Memorial Trophy, Justin Pesony, goaltender; Brian McFarlane Award, Justin Pesony; Pete McGeough Award, Zach Miskovic, defenseman; Terry Slater Perseverance Award, Pat Muir, forward; Coaches Award, Jordan Hack, forward; Friends of SLU Hockey 7th Player Award, Charlie Giffin, forward.
